You have received an interview call from your dream employer, now the only thing that is standing between you and the job is “The Interview”. The Biggest mistake in interviewing is not being fully prepared.  You can outshine the competition with preparation and leave a formidable impression after the meeting.

Here are some tips that you need to do before the job interview, to land in your dream job!

Make sure you have a copy of your resume and organize all the documents that you need for the interview. Ensure your cell phone is switched off and be there about ten minutes earlier to avoid unnecessary stress.

Initial Preparation is to do your research and learn about the company, the leadership team, their products and services, latest news about them, their competitors and work culture. You can also use your social network, when possible, to contact friends who work for the organization and learn about their interview and hiring process.

Practice typical interview questions such as

  • Tell us about yourself?
  • Why are you looking for a change?
  • Why does this particular post interest you?

Be prepared to answer questions on topics that you have listed in your resume, even things that you might not be very comfortable answering such as

  • Job hopping in a short duration
  • Shift in technology focus
  • Gaps in work experience

Be confident and wear a smile, as this leaves a good impression on the interviewer. Be sure to greet the interviewer, maintain eye contact and smile.

Quantify your job with data whenever possible and it’d behoove you to have achievement stories ready to demonstrate your accomplishments. Focus on your experience, skills, and your career trajectory. This would help the interviewer understand the value you can bring to the organization.

Don’t forget to send a thank you note to the employer post the interview

The interview is the best shot and it is focused on your capabilities, experience and what you value addition you would be to the organization – so make it a good and lasting one!
